We want Lewes Pilot Gig Club to be accessible to all, so there’s no need to rush out and purchase any kit or equipment. However, should you find yourself overcome by an inexplicable urge to buy things, when the time feels right, here’s a list that might prove useful.
Gloves
Imagine gripping those oars and rowing with gusto, only to find your hands have transformed into something resembling a well-tenderised steak. Gloves, you see, provide that extra layer of protection, allowing you to row with confidence and comfort, sparing your hands from the inevitable wrath of friction and blisters. In short, gloves make the whole affair much more pleasant and far less painful.
Foot Cuffs

Why wear foot cuffs when rowing, you ask? Well, without them, your feet can slip and slide all over the place, making rowing quite the precarious activity. Foot cuffs secure your feet, providing stability and ensuring you can row efficiently without the constant fear of losing your footing. In short, they keep you steady and make the whole experience much more manageable.
LifeJacket
A life jacket keeps you afloat and, more importantly, alive. It’s an essential bit of kit that ensures your safety, allowing you to focus on rowing without the worry of an unexpected swim. In short, it’s your best friend in staying buoyant and safe on the water.

Available at Simpson’s in newhaven marina. They might offer a 10% discount if you say you are LPGC member
Personalised Gear

Why consider personalised gear, you ask? Well, it’s entirely optional but can add a touch of camaraderie and team spirit to our rowing adventures. We tend to do a group order at Another Fine Mesh in Lewes. If you already have a red T-shirt or top, you can simply take it down there to get it printed on. It’s a splendid way to feel part of the crew without having to navigate the bewildering world of sportswear shopping on your own. In short, it’s convenient, communal, and quite stylish, but absolutely not a requirement.
